Porto Rico Importing Co.

Peter Longo grew up above his family’s bakery on Bleecker Street in the same building where his father was born. Down the street was Porto Rico Importing Co., an Italian shop, which was serving coffee so famous even the Pope drank it. In 1956 Peter’s father bought Porto Rico and moved it into their building, where it still stands today.

With the help of Peter’s son, Porto Rico has now expanded to the East Village, Williamsburg, and here at Essex Market.

While each location serves coffee to go, their claim to fame is in the coffee beans and tea leaves imported from 28 countries in over 130 varieties.
