A staple at the market since 2007, Shopsin’s has become well known for unique menu items that range from Mac & Cheese pancakes to African Curry Stew. Kenny and Eve Shopsin opened Shopsin’s as a general store in the West Village in the early 1970s, and transitioned into a full service restaurant to pay the bills when their rent skyrocketed. Chef and owner Kenny Shopsin’s extensive menu and arbitrary dining rules made him a legendary figure in the NYC scene; he was even the subject of a 2004 documentary titled, “I Like Killing Flies.” 

When daughter Melinda fell in love with the market and a stall became available, Shopsin’s joined our vendor community.  

Today you can find the Shopsin children running and carrying on the famous and wacky Shopsin’s spirit. Come say “hi” for lunch or brunch, but make sure to arrive early (and hungry) to beat the Saturday morning rush.
